Each Day is a Page in your Fashion Story

We went on a recent trip to Vegas (believe it or not…) and these are some of my favourite moments and looks of the trip. Going around November through February isn’t my favourite time to go because it’s not really pool weather, and this time we were with my in laws and a lot of my husband’s extended family for his Grandparent’s diamond wedding anniversary. They are all great but it definitely makes for a different and more subdued trip! Plus Ryan was pretty sick with cold/flu the whole time so it was a lot quieter of a trip to Vegas as he was feeling so under weather.

This is probably more of a summer friendly look but it was new and I love it, I was chilly by the end of the night but it was worth it!

This is my favourite new top, I’m in love with the long fringe, plus I was comfortable all night.

We went to dinner at Blue Ribbon Sushi at the Cosmopolitan that night, it was our second time there and it was just as good!

This was my most casual night there, I was super comfy the whole night and it was pretty chilly that night so I was glad I was wearing a sweater. We went to eat at Mon Ami Gabi at Paris, which is one of my favourite restaurants. If you go, make a reservation and show up to it a couple minutes early to wait for a table on the patio – it is totally worth it for the view of the Bellagio fountains all night.  We went for a drink at a lounge at the Cosmopolitan with the whole family and then Ryan was really not feeling well that night so it was early to bed.

I wore this fab dress for our last night out. We went to FIX at the Bellagio for dinner then to see the Cirque Du Soleil show Zumanity – we really enjoyed it, it’s fun and the theatre is a really small and intimate setting which makes it feel really interactive.

  • Dress: Express (quelle surprise!)
  • Shoes: Aldo (old) similar here

I think this is our last trip to Vegas for a while, as much as we love going there and have so much fun – it is very costly and we are itching to mix it up. We’re trying to plan one big trip before starting to talk about baby plans, so we’re throwing around ideas of Italy, Greece, New Zealand and Hawaii. The second I get back from a trip I want to start planning the next one!

Back from the Dead!

I know this is so overdue, it’s now late November and this is a Halloween post but I couldn’t let all the fun of our annual halloween party sneak by without detailing some highlights right here.

Come one, come all!

Details… spooky and fun!

I loved these vases, I just got some cheap vases of different sizes at the dollar store and filled them with halloween candy, some black roses and some black sticks with skeletons.

cookie

How cute are these spider cookies?! They are just peanut butter cookies and as soon as you take them out of the oven you press the back of a teaspoon on the top to make a little divot.  Once they are completely cool I used a drop of melted chocolate as glue and stuck a mini peanut butter cup on top as the body, then piped the legs with melted chocolate. I also stuck the eyes on with melted chocolate, the eyes you can get at bulk barn and Michaels. I love them, I think they turned out so well.

My other favourites were these jalapeño popper mummies, aren’t they adorable?! They are easy but time consuming. I mixed cream cheese, jalapeño jack cheese and chopped green onion and filled jalapeños that I cut in half length wise.  I stretched out pillsbury crescent rolls into rectangles and sliced long strips and wrapped the pepper leaving a space for the candy eyes. I brushed with an egg mixture and baked for ten minutes, then pop the eyes in after they’re baked. You can find a really good step by step recipe here http://www.thehopelesshousewife.com

I was hoping this veggie platter would look like a candy corn but only a couple people I asked could identify that!

That was an ice hand in the punch bowl, that punch would come back to haunt me the next day.

How awesome is this dip? My friend Hollie brought it and I thought it was so well done. My girlfriend Erin also made cheese bread bones that were delicious but once they were baked and expanded they looked more like penises than bones!

Scarecrow and crow. I am just obsessed with that headpiece Ryan wore, he was such a good sport about it – he was basically just covered in feathers. I took a ball cap and built the beak out of bristol board and then wrapped the head around and around and around with black feather boas.

costumes8

Mr. Monopoly and a sugar skull.

Beyonce!

Elliot! This was my absolute favourite costume of the night.

costumes3

Marty McFly, I wish I had a full body pic because the costume was bang on.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Garth was kicking around somewhere too, Hollie and her husband were identity thieves which was actually quite creative, they went from person to person and after talking to them would take their names and stick them all over their hoodies.

Things were starting to get a little messy at this point!

Erin was the Lion King, Lisa was Snow White.

There were so many creative costumes, I love seeing what people come up with.

Ryan’s birthday was the week before and it was pretty low key and just the two of us went to dinner, he didn’t do anything with his friends. I decided to have a custom cake made and gave it to him at the party when all his friends were there too. It was amazing!!! The girl who makes them is so so good, her cakes are so creative and really well done. I just told her some things he likes and that I wanted to incorporate and she just went to town. I was so so happy with it.

I love this photo of me giving the cake to him, good paparazzi skills guys!

The next day I was not in a good way, I only left the house to pick up the dog. Then I laid on the couch until 4:30, threw up three times and then ate a pizza. Classy! I was glad I felt better in time to hand out candy though. Ryan was feeling ok the next day and him and his friend decided to go out. When I cleaned up from the party I threw out everything including his costume (he was not thrilled), so we threw together a last minute costume to go with his friend Dave’s existing costume.

costumes

Jughead and Archie! I know the shirt with the S looks pretty thrown together but I just love the costume, we stole the crown from Erin’s lion king costume and then just took things from the closet and had a Jughead look ready to go!

I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween!

Mad Hatter!

Fall is in full swing and I love it! As sad as it is that summer is now gone, the days are shorter and the sun is not nearly as hot, I can’t get enough of the beautiful fall colours and all the fall style. Lately I have been seeing so many fab hats so I had to jump on the band wagon. Usually I’m not a big fan of wearing hats, as cute as I find them, I find them extremely uncomfortable. I have a really big head and I never ever wear baseball caps because I think they are so restrictive, at the pools I always start the day in a fedora and end the day with it lost and my hair in a bun. When I found this hat (for cheap!) I loved it immediately and it was actually comfortable. Give me all the winter hats!

Totally into these boots too, I wear them all the time.

We have been having the most gorgeous fall! The weather has been so nice, which will be hard to remember when we’re 5 months into the deep freeze winter!

I love being able to wear just a sweater or a light jacket, the saddest thing about fall in this province is how short it is! I’ll be in a parka before you know it.

DSC04695

I love the shape of the hat but I also am obsessed with the colour. I like reds on blonde haired girls!

I hope everyone is enjoying this sunny fall, and get thee into a hat!
